I've been using the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette constantly for the past few months. It's really the only eyeshadow palette I have with quite a range of different colours, and I thought it was time to try something new, despite how much I love my Naked palette.
I was browsing beautybay.com and thought I'd take a look at ZOEVA's range. I hadn't tried anything by ZOEVA before but I've seen youtube vloggers and bloggers rave about the brand - their brushes in particular. I saw on the site that they do quite a few eye palettes, but this one caught me eye straight away. It's called the 'Mixed Metals' palette and at only £15.50, I had to give it a try. To me, that seems very affordable compared to the likes of Urban Decay, Stila and Illamasqua.
The colours in the palette are designed to depict various metals, hence the names 'Rusty Steel', 'Platinum' and so on. They range from warm to cool tones, and all have a slight shimmer to them which I still think is very wearable. The matte black shade 'Onyx' is a great addition to the palette, which can be used for any look created with the other colours. I thought this would be great to experiment with for a grungy, smokey eye, without having to use the same nude colours that I always turn to.
I've only used the colours 'Rusty Steel' and 'Aluminium' so far, but from my experience with them, the staying power is great. They are really pigmented and blend so easily. I always use an eye primer anyway to prolong the staying power, so I don't have to deal with smudging and creasing. The packaging is pretty funky too!
Swatches:
From left to right: Alloy, Neo Brass, Bronce, Rusty Steel & Copper Plate.
Warm Silver, Platinum, Ore Stone, Aluminium & Onyx.
While browsing on beautybay, I thought I may as well try one of ZOEVA's brushes too seeing as they are so highly regarded in the beauty world! Again, these seem pretty affordable. I decided to buy a 225 Blender Brush (£6.95) as I thought it would be a good one to try with the palette for soft, smokey blending. It's soooooo soft, and the perfect shape and size to blend out shadows in the crease and for highlighting the brow bone. It came in a cute little zip case too, which is a bonus :)
I can't wait to try these more and see what different looks I can create. I'm quite tempted to buy some of the other palettes too if I get on well with this one!
