I feel like now is the perfect time to express my happiness. I've finally found a perfect combination of products that give me the makeup longevity I've been dying for.
I have problematic skin - dry areas, VERY oily areas, and acne all over the place which flares up and down. While experimenting with makeup for the past few years, I've tried so many products to make my skin look flawless when in reality, it's far from that.
Working full-time in the city means that throughout the year I have long days, commuting back and forth on hot, sweaty trains. A girl wants to have her makeup looking on point, ya know? I hate coming home and looking in the mirror to see my foundation sliding off, my eyeshadow creased and smudged all over the place, and looking so damn shiny that you could fry an egg on my forehead... not okay.
Thankfully, I don't have that problem anymore! *rejoices*. These are the little babies that are keeping me matte, fresh, and shine-free all day long:
This primer is officially my new best friend - no joke. I suffer with red patches and large pores, which are sometimes hard to cover up with foundation. This primer creates such a smooth base for foundation, allowing it to glide right over your pores. It also has anti-shine properties, which is a bonus for me.
I apply this onto my eyelids before putting on any eyeshadow. Similarly to face primer, it creates a smooth, semi-matte base so that shadow can blend more easily. Even more importantly, it prevents that annoying creasing you get when it's hot. I pop this on in the morning, and when I'm home at 6.30 my eyeshadow is still looking flawless, with not a crease in sight!
I can honestly say that this is the best powder I've ever used. I've tried various powders before to set my foundation, including Rimmel Stay Matte which I know a lot of people go crazy for. I felt that nothing really worked for me, making me look cakey and I was still having to touch up my nose and forehead every hour or so which is unnecessary. This powder from Smashbox is expensive, but it's definitely worth it. You don't need to use much, and it's such a fine consistency (it looks white but it isn't when applied). It glides over everything seamlessly, and I use this with a damp beauty blender under my eyes to set my concealer. As a result, I don't get concealer creasing, and it genuinely keeps me matte for at least 7 hours. I was gobsmacked the first time I used it. What a gem.
I was shopping online the other day as The Body Shop had a sale on. I was curious to try something new and I came across this. It's supposed to be applied before any other lip liner or lipstick, and it's completely invisible. The idea is that it will stop lipstick bleeding out of the line, as it creates a waxy, invisible barrier. I've tried it for a couple of days now and so far, so good. It does the job! Lipstick smudging halfway down your chin is NOT a good look.
This right here is a little beauty. It does what it says on the bottle. Perfect for a night out, it will lock in all of your makeup to keep you looking fresh when you're partying the night away. This may be more suitable for normal-dry skin types, as I don't think it really keeps shine away. It just stops it sliding off your face, which is good enough. Urban Decay also sell an oil controlling version which I'm tempted to try. However, with all of the other products I'm using at the moment, I'm not really having a shine problem - so this is just perfect!
I hope this might help some of you who have these similar problems!
